Welcome to The Fashion School

The Fashion School in London and Brighton offers fashion, sewing and design classes for children, teens and adults.

Learn through make: We teach lifelong sewing and illustrative skills to support the creative process. From repairing/customising a pair of jeans to preparing sketchbooks and portfolios – we’re here to help.

Friendly and dedicated tutors: Over 50+ years collective teaching experience. All of our tutors have BA (Hons) in Fashion or Textiles and DBS certificates. Find out more here.

Beginners: Learn using our unique and easy sewing induction programme – successful for over 20 years . It really doesn’t matter if you haven’t sewn a stitch.

We encourage enquiring open young creative minds:
Our classes and workshops are structured so each child can express themselves individually. Once they can sew, every student’s project is determined by them and we inspire and enable rather than dictate direction.

Two pathways for students to choose from and develop their own potential: Available in all classes. Learn more here.

  • Fashion Pathway: Creating designs from concept to sewn garment. For those students wanting a fashion future or preparation for Art or Textiles GCSE/A level/Art Foundation etc.
  • Sewing Pathway: For those students wanting to sew things for themselves in a relaxing environment with fashion as a hobby.

Arts Awards (from June 2018): A nationally recognised qualification, Arts Award inspires young people to grow their arts and leadership talents; Creative, valuable and accessible – ideal for aspiring fashion/textile students who want to create their own brief.

Our studio in the centre of Brighton has two floors, with a 3m x 2m pattern cutting table and a studio photographic area (all available for hire).  Please feel free to come to our studios and have a chat about what we can do for you.

“Since attending The Fashion School with Caroline over the past few years, not only have I learnt a whole range of new skills and techniques, but also the importance of planning and organisation that goes into creating my own work and within the fashion industry. Caroline has broadened my knowledge and creative mindset of fashion and textiles, and inspired me with her great understanding of the subject. The amount of hard work she puts into her lessons is the level of dedication I have aspired to put into my own work. From working on my own designs and sketches, creating garments using my own patterns, to working on my A Level work and portfolio, Caroline has guided me through the past five years pushing for the best work I can produce, but with enough freedom to make it my own and find my personal creative style. I have come a long way as a student from The Fashion School, which has helped me greatly to where I am now. As a second year college student I have been able to include techniques and skills to develop my work and sketchbooks much further”

“The Fashion School provides so many unique and exciting opportunities for younger students wanting to learn and grow their design and sewing techniques. There is always such a wonderful variety of classes, workshops, shows and trips to inspire, enthuse and grow the students. The tutors are caring and incredibly capable and the students get to use great quality equipment. Caroline always brings the most wonderful energy, warmth, enthusiasm and passion to all that she does at The Fashion School, which adds to make it a truly special place to be”

“We have sent our daughter on loads of activity clubs over the years, but nothing has ever inspired her as much as The Fashion School. It was wonderful to hear her talking so excitedly about every evening throughout the course, and for a long while afterwards. We regularly recommend the school to our friends and hope more girls can benefit as much as our daughter clearly has. You have encouraged my daughter to view her Dyslexia as an asset in the fashion world and this has made her feel more positive and happy. She now believes that she has a natural creative talent that she could use to make her successful in her future career”
Mrs Robinson, mother
“I love The Fashion School for so many reasons. The garments always look so well made and it is very professionally run with lovely tutors and equipment. The School is so well organised with lots of wonderful workshops and fashion trips. I’ve attended several other design classes, and none of them compare to The Fashion School”
